Ulrich Sauter has many years of experience in the financial and capital markets sector, both as General Counsel of financial institutions and as an independent lawyer. He advises banks, securities firms and asset managers on regulatory issues, in particular on financial instruments such as structured products, stock exchange regulation, governance issues and the establishment of compliance processes and directives. As former General Counsel of a large blockchain foundation, his in-depth knowledge of digital assets and DLT regulatory issues enables him to provide clients with targeted and practical support. With several years of experience as General Counsel for various start-ups, he knows the legal and business problems of young companies and can thus cost-effectively set up and advise a company in legal, compliance and risk management and, if necessary, manage it as an external lawyer.

Ulrich Sauter studied law at the University of St. Gallen, was an assistant to Prof. Dr. Peter Nobel and worked at the District Court of St. Gallen as an extraordinary court clerk. After passing the bar exam in 1999, he worked for a New York law firm. After several years in the banking and finance group at Walder Wyss AG and a postgraduate degree at New York University School of Law (LL.M.), he took on various legal and compliance positions in trading and asset management at Bank Julius Bär & Co. LTD. In 2007 he joined Leonteq as one of the first employees and was able to build up the company from scratch in the legal and compliance area. He was General Counsel, Member of the Executive Board and Corporate Secretary of Leonteq AG and Leonteq Securities AG for more than 10 years and was also a member of the Board of Directors of various subsidiaries in Asia and Europe. Subsequently, he advised clients in his preferred areas of law as counsel at Nastra Attorneys at Law Ltd. and was engaged as General Counsel for the Tezos Foundation for three years. He is currently active as General Counsel of Maverix Securities AG, a FINMA regulated securities firm.

Ulrich Sauter is fluent in German, English and French.

He is a member of the Zurich and Swiss Bar Associations.
